Days 41, 42, and 43

Ok, so I'm getting behind again on updating these I know. Sad sad sad. There's been a lot of things going on and at the end of the night I'm just too tired to care. Here we go then. Worker, Self, and "It's Gonna Rain!" Hope you enjoy! I will try to get these up once a day.

Day 40 - Extinguish

I think this one is actually blurry. I may need to retake it, but at this point it's too late and my laziness prevails once again. I'm just happy I got 2 days in a row! Yay! This one is called extinguish, it looks to me as if the flame is going out. I actually like it. Lots of hills recently.

Day 39 - For This Hill

Starting back into the swing of things. One picture a day, no B-Side yet. This one inspired partially by Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I realized afterward he has no sword but a shield. I think I like it this way.

For a hill, men would kill. Why? They do not know
Stiffend wounds test their pride

Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know

For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls

Take a look to the sky just before you die
It's the last time he will

Beyond the Blip(Makeup - Days 25-38)

Here are a barrage of pictures, the days I missed, I figure I did one about every other day or so. There are no titles, but I will continue to try to upload these about once a day. No real titles to work from, I could list them but laziness prevails. As expected, no B-sides ;)

New Days Ahead

I read that last post and shake my head and laugh. I still have those pictures in my book, they're still waiting. I'm probably going to photograph them soon and put them up in one big block then get back on track with one a day, I don't know what day it is, so I'll just go in sequential order :)

Day ????

I haven't updated in like 4 days. I haven't stopped drawing mind you, just stopped putting them on the computer. I will eventually. Things have just piled up and everything is breaking down*(cars, computers, phones, etc etc) and I'm just so exhausted I can't possibly work on a computer that doesn't really work. I will post them either tonight later or tomorrow defiantly. Until then, me, keep swimming!

Day 24 - Lounging Smoker (Makeup!)

The title is strange I know, it came from Elizabeth. She found what she called "A Lounging Smoker" within this piece. Can you find it? :)

I forgot to put this one up last  night! Whoops! I had it made and ready to go, but I went to bed early and forgot. Only I notice these things I know, but I still keep myself accountable.

Day 23 - Pieces :..||..: B-Side - Little Fenlo

This one was actually done during the day(and during class, doodling can help me focus sometimes). Although this goes beyond normal doodling for me. I was happy that I didn't lose focus like I usualy do with these kinds of drawings. After the head and neck, the drawing usually falls off.

This one was actually a little different. I began with smoother more loopy lines in the head and crown. "Fenlo" was the name of a wizard in a very old(and much loved) DnD campaign. He gave the adventures(myself included) much grief, but in the end was very helpful. That and he just looks like a Fenlo.

Day 22 - Blue Frog

Frog! Blue! I don't know. It's different. It's not a bird. I'm trying to keep up with the color, see how that goes. I still don't know how I like it. Maybe I should minimize the color slightly? Always looking for different ways to improve. No B-Side

I just can't believe Pearl Jam is in a Target commercial.

Day 21 - Lava :..||..: B-Side - Testing the Waters

 I was watching "Nature" on PBS and the topic was violent Hawaii. I was inspired to draw the lava. I think it would be so cool to be able to have the job that requires you to collect lava samples.

B-Side

A funny little drawing I did early on during the day. I think my favorite part of the whole drawing is the fish at the bottom. :)

Day 20 - What is It? :..||..: B-Side - Man?

This is a strange one. Both of tonights (mornings) drawings are pretty sparse compared to some others. I was working on what I thought was a bird, but it was seen as many different things. I think the bird is most apparent, but I like it when other things can be seen. That's just me though.

B-Side

A strange little drawing I did. I really enjoy it actually. So I decided to put it up. I know not much tonight. It's another late night and another day is dawning. To bed, to bed.

Day 19 - Prism Bird :..||..: B-Side - Searcher

More experimentation with color. I think I'm going to try and keep this up for the work I do for the show. I don't know though. Is it too cheesy? I'm still figuring out how I feel about the color. It takes a lot longer and therefore, to me, lacks the energy of movement that I feel is with some of the other pieces. It's more precise and less energetic. I do like this work though.

  Late night again. Early meeting tomorrow morning. V for Vendetta is always worth it though!

B-Side

I had a hard time naming this one. I think it was the Fuel song "Hemorrhage" that had the line "Drag the waters, till the depths give up their dead." It was always for some reason very poetic and moving. I kind of had that thought running through my mind when drawing this, but I realize that you don't drag waters with an oar, so that would be silly. I named it "Searcher" because I feel like he/she(who knows) really isn't rowing, but is inspecting the waters, breaking it's surface...for a reason no one knows but the Searcher. I also was really happy with the clouds, I know they're kind of basic and boring and perhaps not well drawn, but I like them! Another B-Side that was close to being "The Piece"...

Day 18 - Sadness

I don't know how I feel about this one. I like that the bird is in an environment and I actually like the environment it is in. The bird itself is ok. I like the eye the best. It is the sun that bothers me. I think I went too far with it, made it too complicated. Too many lines.

Day 17 - Faded Spiral :..||..: B-Side - Bird on Wire

You must forgive me for the drawings tonight. I feel so drained. I don't know if it was the day or the solidness of my stress. I've always enjoyed Fibbonoci numbers and how amazingly simple the pattern is and how it plays such a role in nature. Voila!

B-Side

Yes, another bird. Started with the head as boxes and I saw the eye and it grew from there. Sometimes I just cannot resist the itch :) Sue me.

Day 16 - Green Man :..||..: B-Side - Imp Feast

I don't really know what I was thinking when I drew this. It began literally as a shading doodle right by his temple. It was the background first and it grew into this. I know the muscles aren't anatomically correct, but I really don't care that much. I like the background more than anything else.
B-Side

I really don't know where the hell this one came from either. An imp feeding a fat Roman? Or Greek? Or some other form of mystically robed figure who is blindfolded? Who knows. It was humorous enough for me to share, so enjoy:)

Day 15 - New Tree

Trees are another big thing for me to draw. Organic and flowing. I guess it is because any mass or shape can be molded into some sort of tree, and the way I move the pen, the forms also are fitting of birds. I do other things, but I really like how these come out. I never know how to do the leaves to make it look good. This way works for this one, but I'll try something different next time. No B-Side today :( So sad.

Day 14 - The Professor :..||..: B-Side - Cover

Two weeks of drawings already! Tempus Fugit indeed. This one is a mixed media piece. I used ballpoint pen and India Ink, because I was messing around with the cover of my sketchpad(see Side B!). This one actually seems too close to the "Little Prince" book. I never read it but I remember a bunch of my friends read it in 8th grade. Go figure. I like the mixed approach.
B-Side

This is the cover of my sketchpad. I worked it over with three different kinds of ink and used a straw and my breath to distribute them. An undergrad professor taught me that technique and I really enjoy it, although it is easy to become lightheaded when doing so. You can see the original cover and color peeking through in the back, but I actually don't mind that either. This one is actually really blurry when you click on it, so I say don't and enjoy it at this size. Or do. It's your choice. I can't stop you know. Go ahead. Click. >:(

Day 13 Light Dog :..||..: B-Side Waiting

This one came out of left field for me. I was trying to do ANYTHING but a bird. I think that's where the moose came from too. This one worked out better for me though. I was on the phone with Comcast trying to get my internet to work, so I spent 25 of the 30 minutes I was on the phone (2 minutes to punch to get a person, 3 minutes with a human being) drawing this and the B-Side. Customer Service is fun! I do not envy those who work in it. I try to be a nice customer, even when I've been wronged!
B-Side

I cant draw horses really. I never could. They were always blocks to me. I remember in Elementary School all the girls were obsessed with drawing horses. I was content to draw my blocks. The only thing I remember them telling me was to draw the jaw of a horse, just draw a sideways question mark. I obviously didn't do that here. Just me waiting to talk to a person :)

Day 12(Makeup!) - Shakey Flight :..||..: B-side King Turkey

Ok, so we had some internet troubles and I missed a day somewhere along the line. I still did my drawing but I delayed it. Even more reason for me using this blog. Keeps me honest! Anyways, this is another bird I know, but I love the forms and movement with them. I revisit this theme often. One of flight and whatnot. It is even more interesting that I don't really study REAL birds, just the ones in my head.
B-Side

Because I missed a day I feel I should post B-Sides for both days. So here is King Turkey! Looking down at his groveling masses! Why? Because that's what fell out of my head! =p

Day 11 - Do they really?

"The Eyes Have It"
"O rly?"
"Ya rly"
*shrug*
That's what I see when I see this. It was a long day today. I have a sense of overwhelment and it is only the second day. Yet I also have this unbelievable feeling of hope. A sloppy jolt in my step. I still don't know about my art. Ugh.

Day 10 - Mr. Moose :..||..: B Side - Parts

Classes started today. Cars aren't working, computers aren't working. *sigh* I don't know what's wrong but wont have time to call tech support or possess enough stamina to call tech support for the next few days. Wednesday is an all day for me, Thursday as well, Friday is another one, and so is Saturday, Sunday is a half day and so is Monday, Tuesday it begins again, full days are here to stay it seems. Life will be quite full coming up. I don't even know how to draw a moose.
B-Side

This one is very different for me, almost graphic. I like it though, had a tough decision between this one and the other which should be which. I'm still unsure, but ah ah! Got to keep my maximum laziness in check. So here it shall stay. Parts of the whole.

Day 9 - Dirge :.||.: B-Side - Flicker

Very rarely do I ever directly relate an image I create to the music I may be listening to at the time. Mostly I use the energy of the music to move me without thinking. It helps sometimes and other times it doesn't. I was on Buckethead's website (www.bucketheadland.com), and he has a song posted for Michal Jackson. Although I wasn't a huge fan of Mr. Jackson, I must say that Buckethead's song moved me to draw this in direct response. Something that I rarely if ever do. So there it be.
B-Side

I don't really think of what i do as art, just doodles really. To call it art I feel would make me feel like an impostor. I use regular ballpoint pens. Maybe calling them doodles makes it easier for me to do them. I have the hardest time starting pieces. A blank canvas denotes infinite possibilities, and once you put down a permanent mark, your possibilities are limited exponentially. It's all about trusting and moving, that's why I make such impulsive work such as this with a regular Bic Atlantis.

Day 8 - Warcry

A simpler drawing from the past two days but still something that I think is worthy of sharing. I try to draw something besides birds most of the times because that is where I usually go, but many times I'm happy with the results.

Day 7 - Two Sides of the Whole :..||..: B-Side - Retreaters

So the main computer is on the fritz so I'm using the old slower computer. Which might mean the quality isn't as good? Joy.
This main one actually came from a few days ago when I thought they were both not worth my time. Funny how when you revisit something later and see it with a clear head how opportunity arises. I decided to make these two pieces come together. I actually think the photo of this looks better than the original piece, which I never feel is the case.
The B-Side
This was just a simple organic drawing. I didn't know where it was going and not really sure how it ended up. The reason I made it a B-side was because I really liked the eye of the bird and the "man" or thing on top. Something was really compelling about them both.

Day 6 - Dream Flower

So I spent some time drawing today to make up for yesterday. This one took a little over an hour to do, which isn't that bad honestly. As the semester begins I doubt the quality will be this good but who knows? I'm still going to try! I started this while listening to someone jam on a bass.
No B-side today.
